Today my little, regularly coming out Tobolskiy about old computer games and hardware is two years old. Time for an Amateur show a lot of... it's time to do a little retrospective, to dismantle "(not)a creative way". Interested? Welcome to under the cut!

What show?
First, there were numerous conversations with a friend on the topic "and it would be nice to own its video transmission..." (immediately after their own MMOPRG and the Board game of course!). These conversations between the business or there for a beer lasted for months and were not specific plans — rather a discussion on "would be nice". But at some point my mind just clicked thought "what the hell?!", and just a couple of hours "on the knee" and single-handedly made the first release. After receiving certain feedback, among whom were cautiously positive, and "the idea is good, the text is normal, only don't let more the same person to the microphone." It was later made second edition, third... to Stay was not easy, and about a year and a half later editions began to come out regularly, 1 time in 2 weeks.
Themes the program has been chosen quite predictable: old computer games and hardware, the benefit is since 2010 my friend and having a joint blog on this topic. Also just came out with the title, which was taken from the same blog: Old-Hard[ware], similar to some of the favorite websites on this subject, Old-Games.RU.

Super collected old computer and compare the image quality and performance on the computer of those times (and videos with the capture card recorded, not "camera aimed at the monitor!"). Install MS-DOS? On a real machine, not virtual, and from floppy disks. Sound from PC-speaker? Write the sound from two different tweeters for comparison with the emulated DosBox'om! And so on.
Considered a toy? The emphasis on the gameplay seen chips and personal opinion. Try not to regurgitate Wikipedia, but to talk about the things that have noticed.
I also try (when it makes sense!) to write a video with a real iron. Capture card with VGA input and TV tuner to the rescue.
No "good for its time". Yes, it is very important to understand when was the game and what were the traditions or limitations, but for me, the main question remains "is it worth it to play now?". Although the phrase in reviews sometimes and sounds, we are all human, all have weaknesses...)
Positive. I try not to take up something bad and tell "how it is bad", and viscauti something interesting. What you should download or buy today, what is possible and fun to play so far. Undeservedly forgotten gems. Of course there are exceptions, but they are the exception. And no, this does not mean that I am talking only about the good of the shortcomings I'm considering, and not less detail than dignity.
No makeovers. I know how easy it is to start polishing something to a Shine and to release "we did not specify to December of what year..." or as my colleague, the output "special edition Halloween" in January of next year, as the fellow nearly had... that doesn't mean I'm not trying to do everything properly — there's always a few takes when filming and voice acting, there are prerendering video several times because of small schools, spotted 1-2 days before uploading, etc. But I'm not three months to finish a 15-minute video of parts that will notice 2-3 people out of several thousand. That can be considered the credo is — the work needs to be done quality but in a timely manner. Do not try endlessly to correct all the mistakes here and now, but to make conclusions and next time the same mistake to try to attack.

It all started with camera digital soapbox for shooting all sorts of artifacts (boxes with games, PCBs, etc.), as well as a lavalier MIC for a few bucks (like Genius MIC-01C) that is bound to a table lamp instead of a tripod. No, I'm serious, so the sound quality was better than if it to cling to the gates t-shirt or a shirt pocket.
Stuck a microphone in the laptop, the sound quality (or lack thereof...) can be estimated by first editions. Normalization? Compressor? Pop filter? Do not tell my Slippers, they have a Fig with a sense of humor. Were recorded and cleaned the audio in Audicity, but the video itself was assembled in VideoPad Video Editor. This set of software I use so far.
Some time later, the microphone was replaced by USB shny Logitech USB Desktop, and the camera – on-camera Canon Legria HF R406. The camera is not the steepest, it for example there is no input for an external microphone, but there is a very cool and easy on-screen menu, and cool mechanical lens cover. Obojau good mechanics.
Around the same time was purchased the fee capture video over a VGA cord, but about it I already wrote. A TV tuner to record from older consoles for example I already had, something from the company Beholder.
Later, I finally used softinku Levelator for sound processing and a microphone were added to a homemade pop filter. Yes, from a piece of tights (got my girls) and cans of CD-discs. In the photo it is fixed on a tripod away from the camera, but later I began to mount on Desk lamp (photo of lewdness have not survived).
However, it took another few months before I appeared in the frame — before the camera continued to be used exclusively for filming of all sorts of tools Yes game content boxes. For the first time by the way I decided to remove just in time for the first anniversary of the transfer. As the background was pinned to the wall game posters. Lighting? Em. What kind of lighting...?
The next step made me make one of the spectators of the transmission. Literally, his comment can't remember but it was something like “I like the show, but it hurts to look at the quality of the filming — why not use normal lighting and green screen?” But really, why not? After a short discussion with him parts was chosen this scheme:

Cut out the background of normal (Sony Movie Studio 13, a kind of circumcised Sony Vegas as its Home version was cheaper than the others...) has turned out far not from the first attempt, but the current version looks more or less work, use a chain of plugins

Though recently with the background of the problem arose from not waiting. I smashed glasses, and the new SUDDEN glare under lights and the green light. Before this I didn't think the old glasses gave a glare, and if any were not green and white. Now here I think, whether to do without glasses, or to order a new one, not glaring...)
The last "upgrade" was replacing the microphone with a dynamic to a condenser Samson Meteor USB (with the ability to plug headphones to monitor!) and the camera on the Panasonic HC-V730. And somewhere in this time I noticed a problem: the sound from the microphone and camera that not only sounded different, it could survive — the sound from the built-in camera microphone sounded much worse. Option it record sound the same Meteor'om, but then to shoot you have somewhere to put the laptop, then the sound from camera and external microphone to reduce or hands, wasting precious time, or using PluralEye — I drop dead, but it is very well for Amateur use, but I prefer the licensed software. This option (with the sound) I tried a couple of times, but the time did not suit me.
So after a few experiments, I decided to connect to the camera mounted microphone "gun" Rode Videomic. Also not ideal, but allows no steam — just take the sound from the camera without any superimposition and with minimal processing I use in the video.
Oh, and by the way. I sometimes torturing the neighbors with the sounds from above, as well as the trams outside the window: it is very good microphone catches the sounds (though for the ordinary life they never interfere). The decision came almost by accident: leidub with stretched over teleom. How the sheet looks, you can see in the photo. Saves only from neighbors, but not of the trams. As a bonus — the problem with the extra reverb solves. No comment.

Here I first wanted to write about the peculiarities of the dialogue with the audience, and then I realized that everything is almost exactly the same as with the review on habré. So perhaps instead tell a funny story.

What next?
In the coming months I will continue making videos on a schedule, and will make a final attempt to combine normally frequent (2 times per month) comprehensive (at least 12-15 minutes) video thing and the improvement of the skill of programming. If will not work – the video will appear less often, or I'll alternate full-length release/mini release.
After a year here, definitely will tell what the outcome of (continued?) this story.
Well, since anyway the article in the section "I'm a PR", then there will not be wrong to place a video message in honor of the second anniversary of the transfer. The beginning I think it turned out cool.
