Rostelecom is developing a new search engine "Sputnik", which could be launched in 2014.

As told Vedomosti's interlocutor in "Rostelecom", the search engine, which will be located at sputnik.ru to begin operation in the first quarter of 2014. He noted that the project exists about three years, and its active development is done in the last year or two, for which the company invested $ 20 million.

According to the newspaper, the new searcher will move "at the state level," and by default be installed in government and state-owned companies. However, a source in Rostelecom said that the search engine will provide a filtration objectionable to the state content and for its promotion among users will use market methods. System development deals with the company "KM Media", acquired Rostelecom in 2012 (the link to Roem.ru interesting comments, read).

The newspaper's sources in "Yandex" and Mail.ru Group said that now "Rostelecom" conducts interviews with developers in these companies.

That the Russian authorities had the idea of creating a national search engine, more than existing search engines, based on state needs the media first wrote back in the spring of 2010. Then he asserted that the initiator of the project was held the post of Deputy head of presidential administration Vladislav Surkov.

The idea of creating a "public search engine" appeared in 2008 in the administration of the then President Dmitry Medvedev. This happened after the war in Georgia, told "Vedomosti" the Deputy of the state Duma Ilya Ponomarev. The information in news sections of searchers not always corresponded official and thus had a great response. Then it became clear that the search engine can serve as a powerful media resource and be used as the aggregator need the state news. In the same year the businessman Alisher Usmanov wanted to buy a share in "Yandex" — the largest Russian search engine with a share of over 60% in Runet.

Yet sputnik.ru greets visitors with a login form. Not bad for two years of development and a budget of $20 million.
