OpenFlow in Moscow

to the Attention of all progressive nerds and fans to look to the future!

Tomorrow at 16:00 at MSU will host a seminar on the problems and future of computer networking workshop is supported by the Center for applied research of computer networks SKOLKOVO — this is a unique opportunity to communicate directly with the developers of the Protocol OpenFlow and to learn how to build Vychislitelnye network in 5-10 years.

in short, OpenFlow is to try to design network protocols with a clean slate, but given the 40 years of existence of the networks and directly under modern conditions with an avalanche of traffic. The OpenFlow switch is implemented only on the level of data transfer. The car's controller is much more simple device, whose task is to take incoming frame, extract from it the address and if the destination is in the table of switching, the immediate transfer of the frame and switching matrix. Otherwise, the switch over a secure channel sends a request to the Central controller and the OpenFlow network on the basis of received information makes the necessary changes to the table of switching, then the switch processes the frame.

The Central controller has accurate information about the structure and topology of the network. This allows you to optimize the promotion of personnel and, in particular, to make connection "with each other" at the L2 level, without resorting to IP routing, and, in addition, pre - "commuting" transmission channels from the source to the destination. As a result, the network is not individual personnel, and data flows.
