The hotel has sued Google for search suggestions when entering name of the hotel
Google has received another lawsuit (I wonder how many of these lawsuits filed against corporations?) from a small Irish hotel. The hotel is really not the big and famous, but the administration was unpleasantly surprised when I noticed that when you enter the hotel name in the search box, it displays a few search suggestions, one of which shows the word "receivership" next to the name of the hotel. This word is difficult to translate into Russian, but the term literally means "management of a bankrupt's estate". That is a potential customer, entering the name of the hotel, could see the word and decide that the hotel was bankrupt. It is clear that in this hotel no one will go.
Now the owner of the hotel (its name — Ballymascanlon House Hotel, Golf and Leisure Club) filed a lawsuit against the Corporation, asking to remove that term from the search suggestions in respect of the institution. In General, for corporations not the first to be in a similar situation — previously, a lot of lawsuits against Google was related to these search tips. So, some pretty high-profile cases were related to online piracy, when in the search line, there were hints that directly violated the laws of some countries (for example, something like a "Film "salt" download torrent").
I wonder how will evolve this case with the hotel. It is likely, the Corporation would win the lawsuit, and further add to the user agreement any item which avoids such claims in the future. Still, if every company or individual will find something unpleasant in your search suggestions, and then to sue, the company lawyers just won't have time for consideration of more serious cases.
